Service Overview

Self-managed MongoDB clusters accumulate operational risk as they grow: replica sets to monitor, shard balancing to manage, backups to verify, and security configuration that must be exactly right. MongoDB Atlas moves that burden to a managed platform with built-in automation, encryption, and global distribution — but getting there safely requires planning around topology, indexes, and live cutover.

Our pathway assesses your deployment — topology, replica sets, shards, indexes, document growth patterns, security posture, and sizing — then designs the Atlas landing zone: organization structure, private connectivity, encryption, role mapping, backup policy, and alerting. Migration is piloted in a development environment with index validation and application testing, then executed with Atlas Live Migration or mongosync so production cutover is brief and reversible.

Once on Atlas, we optimize for what the platform makes possible: sharding strategy, query and index tuning, multi-region distribution, Atlas Search, and vector search — turning the migration into a foundation for search and AI features, not just a hosting change.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we migrate to Atlas without taking the application down?

Yes — Atlas Live Migration and mongosync keep the target cluster synchronized with your source while it stays in production. Cutover is a brief connection switch with a rollback path, rehearsed during the pilot phase first.

Which cloud should our Atlas deployment run on?

Atlas runs on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud — the right choice usually follows the rest of your infrastructure for network locality and private connectivity. Multi-cloud and multi-region topologies are also options for global applications.

Will our sharded cluster migrate cleanly?

Sharded deployments need extra planning — shard key review, balancer coordination, and index validation — all of which is covered in the assessment and pilot phases. In some cases migration is also the right moment to revisit a shard key that has been causing hot spots.

What are Atlas Search and vector search, and do we need them?

Atlas Search provides full-text search inside the database, and Atlas Vector Search enables semantic and AI-powered retrieval — both without running a separate search cluster. If your roadmap includes search features or AI capabilities like retrieval-augmented generation, the Optimize & Modernize phase prepares your deployment for them.
